Aforesmenos Lighthouse: When the Flame of Collective Memory Ignites Once MoreA symbolic initiative by the sea of Mirabello
A deeply symbolic initiative took place last Saturday afternoon at the abandoned Aforesmenos Lighthouse, overlooking the Gulf of Mirabello.
Residents, friends, and visitors responded to the call of the NatureSoul Adventures team and walked together as an open community, sending a powerful message about the urgent need to preserve and restore this historic landmark.
As the evening light settled, a banner was unfolded for the first time bearing the inscription: "History – Light – Culture // The Lighthouse of Aforesmenos Sends Out an S.O.S // Let the Jewel of Our Land Shine Again"

The gathering included poetry readings, the sharing of local stories from the village of Vrouchas, and symbolic participation by institutions and cultural associations. Present at this inaugural unfurling of the banner were:
Sofia Karamanoli, President of the Municipal Council of Agios Nikolaos
Giorgos Mavroeidis, President of the Vrouchas Community
Ioannis Pagalos and Giorgos Arnaoutakis, representatives of the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos
As noted by the organizers, "this was not merely a hike. It was an act of participation, connection, and hope. The lighthouse, though in ruins, was illuminated once again – by the voices of the people."
The NatureSoul Adventures team, along with local citizens, is committed to continuing the awareness campaign and is calling upon the relevant authorities to publicly inform the residents of Agios Nikolaos about the contents of the restoration study and supporting documents concerning the lighthouse.
They are also demanding clear answers as to why, after so many years, nothing has been done to include the site in a restoration program, nor to develop a historical walking trail with proper signage and interpretation.
